Vatnaskil is an environmental consulting firm offering specialized consultancy regarding nearly all components of our physical environment, including deep geothermal reservoirs, shallow groundwater aquifers, surface waters and the atmosphere. Our expertise lies in developing conceptual and computational models of these systems and applying them to solve issues related to resource development and management, urban planning and structural design, health and the environment. Vatnaskil has nearly four decades of experience serving Icelandic as well as international clients on projects around the globe.

Vatnaskil has extensive experience servicing the renewable energy sector, with a diverse portfolio of projects relating to geothermal and hydropower resource development and management. Services provided by Vatnaskil are applicable at all stages during the life cycle of energy development projects, from initial feasibility stages to operational management strategies. Experience also includes servicing energy intensive industry (e.g. aluminum manufacturing) as well as water intensive industry (e.g. land-based fish farming) including public and private water utilities. Vatnaskil specializes in designing tailor-made solutions for each project, focused on maximizing production from the natural resource while ensuring sustainability and minimizing environmental impacts.

Recent emphasis on wetland restoration has initiated the development of numerical methods for comprehensive simulation of greenhouse gas release from wetland ecosystems. The main goal of these methods is the establishment of direct measures for evaluating the effectiveness of wetland restoration strategies.

Our experience in analyzing a wide array of complex processes within the hydrologic cycle across a range of physical environments, including anthropogenic effects on those processes, provides Vatnaskil with a strong foundation on which to tackle imminent issues associated with climate change.
